Due to passing of electric current through a conductor magnetic field generate around it this effect is called magnetic effect of current. Magnet a magnet is that substance which attracts ferromagnetic elements like iron Cobalt and nickel. When a bar magnet suspended freely from a thread its direction become North and South because Earth is also a huge magnet. Oersted experiment first of all in 1820 Christian oersted proved it by an experiment that when an electric current passing through a conductor it deflect compass needle perpendicular to the conductor  this experiment had proved that a current carrying conductor also produce magnetic field whose position is perpendicular to the the direction of flow of electric current.
